Every hear of the book Custer Died for Your Sins? The idea is Custer got wiped out by the Native Americans because he was the point man for the whole community of arsehat European Americans. The sequel is E1 was Banned for Your Sins. Because in that 400-page or so thread discussing the audio file incident, about 50% of the showed they were just like E1 (except maybe not as funny, charismatic or clever). E1 got a ban, but half of the community showed that is supported "bannable" behavior and didn't get banned.
Anyway, it's like Red state thinking and Blue state thinking in the U.S-- no matter how much you discuss things, people are divided along a hard line one way or the other, and that seems to be it.

Also not to derail, but it really was in 2006, when they were already old gits around 50 years old I guess. The quote was in a letter to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
